In the village of Megali Mantineia, not much had changed in centuries and most people kept goats and worked their olive orchards. Few locals spoke English, which meant that I could work on my rusty language skills, and my partner Jim could grapple with beginner"s Greek. Most villagers didn"t have a clue where Scotland was and struggled with England, too, and I had to resort many times to drawing European maps on dirt roads.
