This is certainly the philosophy of Pussy Riot – more a feminist art collective than a punk band – and could also be taken to be the philosophy of the film. Pussy Riot took their hammer to the world with that 30 seconds at the cathedral altar – setting off a chain of events which made their resulting trial a focus of the world’s media. That trial offered them the perfect platform to prove their very point about the oppressiveness of the regime they live under when it handed down an absurdly excessive punishment for their behaviour (all three got 2 years in a penal colony, one woman later got off on appeal).
